How does digitalisation change our production systems, and how can we convey the new required competencies to our engineering students?

- Descrizione: Digitalisation, new technologies and big data have the potential to change the way cargo flows are organised and managed; they generate business opportunities and pave the way for innovation, new services and business models. It may enable cooperation between supply chain actors, better supply chain visibility, real-time management of traffic and cargo flows, simplification and the reduction of administrative burden, and may allow for better use of infrastructures and resources, thereby increasing efficiency and lowering costs.
However, it also has a big impact on both logistics and production systems and puts new requirements on the competencies of future employees. Therefore, this seminar comprises two different parts. In the first part, we will analyse how digitalisation changes logistics operations in production, while the second part of the lecture series will introduce experiential learning (and the underlying theoretical foundation) as a means of conveying relevant and future-needed competencies to engineering students.

Digitalisation of logistics and production systems- an overview of concepts and technologies in use (2 teaching hours)
Introduction to the theory and the basic behind experiential learning. Active input from the students- examples from own studies/what taught so far (2 teaching hours)
- 22 Settembre 2026 | 14:00 - 17:30 - First block: tutoring, teaching, facilitating, lecturing- what is the difference and which skills do I need?
Second block: Presentation of some examples (based on your input from the day before and the digitalisation class). Active learning (also for the attendees).
